SIBU, Mar 26: Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) has warned traders at its Sibu Jaya Pasar Tamu not to take the law into their own hands during this movement control order period.
SRDC secretary Justani Joni during an inspection of the market today said the council would not hesitate to ask the police to take action against those who violate the law.
He was commenting on the March 24 incident whereby a trader had created a commotion with a group of law enforcement personnel for allegedly contravening MCO by selling non-essential items.
A video clip of the incident had also gone viral.
“We hope such incident will not happen again because we will call the police to act if we find any party that is in defiance during this MCO,” he warned.
Justani also hoped that all traders there, including residents of Sibujaya, would fully comply with the MCO to ensure that the Covid-19 outbreak could be stopped.
He stated that only wet and dry traders were allowed to operate at the Pasar Tamu.
“During this MCO period only public markets and hawkers selling wet goods and kitchen supplies are allowed to operate until 7pm. So I ask the daily hawkers to obey the orders issued by the government,” he said.—DayakDaily
