KUCHING, Jan 11: Visitors strolling through Saradise or enjoying a quiet moment at Hui Sing Park may notice a cheerful new presence in the city — Lucky Cat statues that have quietly become part of Kuching’s urban scenery.
The statues are part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by Borneo Restu Sdn Bhd, for which Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has expressed its appreciation.
A total of four Lucky Cat statues have been installed under the contribution, with two placed at Saradise, one at the MBKS Office, and another at Hui Sing Park.
In a statement today, MBKS said the installations enhance the visual appeal of their surroundings while complementing Kuching’s identity as the internationally recognised “Cat City”, a title closely associated with the city’s culture, heritage and tourism branding.
The statues also serve as attractive landmarks that can be enjoyed by both residents and visitors.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng described the initiative as a positive example of collaboration between the private sector and the local authority in beautifying the city and creating a more vibrant and welcoming environment.
“This CSR effort not only improves the physical landscape of Kuching, but also helps strengthen community pride and a sense of shared responsibility in caring for our city,” he said.
He commended Borneo Restu Sdn Bhd for its thoughtful contribution and expressed hope that the initiative would inspire more corporate partners to take part in CSR programmes supporting city beautification, sustainability and community well-being.
He added that through continued collaboration and shared commitment, Kuching can continue to grow as a clean, attractive and distinctive city that residents are proud of and visitors will remember. – DayakDaily
