KUCHING, Dec 9: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) urges the Sarawak government to sponsor the airing of the Christmas Mass service over radio and television.

In a statement today, PBK president Voon Lee Shan said Christmas has long served as a unifying occasion for Sarawakians of all races and religions.

“Sarawak, being a multireligious and multi-racial society, has always valued togetherness. Christmas became one of those important moments when Sarawakians of all backgrounds gathered, celebrated, and strengthened their bonds as a united community.”

He noted that Christians make up more than half of Sarawak’s population, representing various ethnic groups across urban and rural areas.

“Broadcasting the Christmas Mass would allow those in rural and interior areas, as well as the elderly and those unable to attend church, to participate meaningfully in this important celebration.

“It would also reflect the inclusive spirit that Sarawak has always practiced, where non-Christians join their Christian friends and neighbours in celebrating Christmas as a shared cultural event,” he said.

He also pointed out that in earlier decades, the Sarawak government and broadcasting authorities were supportive of using festive occasions to promote unity and harmony among all communities.

“PBK firmly believes that airing the Christmas Mass will further enhance unity, mutual respect, and the spirit of harmony that defines Sarawak.

“We call on the Sarawak Government to honour this long-standing tradition and provide support for the broadcast of this year’s Christmas Mass,” he added. – DayakDaily
