KUCHING, Jan 7: A new area in Sarawak is set to be gazetted as a special tourism investment zone this year.
According to a news report by TVS, Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) scretary-general Datuk Wira Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman revealed that the area has already been identified and is slated for gazettement within the year.
“While we cannot disclose specific details yet, we have a step-by-step plan to transform this area into a prime tourism investment zone.
“We hope this gazettement will attract more investors to Sarawak,” he said after the launching and handover of the Intimate & Ultimate Kuching Gastronomy Guidebook at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Headquarters today.
With the upcoming new international airport in Kuching, Roslan expressed optimism that Sarawak will gain greater global exposure, benefiting both the State and Malaysia in unlocking more of Sarawak’s tourism potential.
Highlighting Sarawak’s unique attractions, he noted its abundant natural beauty, including mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, and seas, alongside many other distinctive features.
On Visit Malaysia Year 2026, Roslan said Motac has planned 101 meetings involving 15 ministries under the cultural heritage pillar.
“In Sarawak alone, Motac will hold six meetings under this initiative,” he added.
