KUCHING, Aug 2: Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) president Lina Soo believed that Sarawakians need elected representatives who are really committed to serve the people.

She quashed the belief that lawyers can defend and fight for the people in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) and criticised Democratic Action Party (DAP) for making inappropriate decision in particular its Sarawak chairman Chong Cheng Jen who called his former compatriot, Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei a “traitor”.

“I have always said it’s not always necessary that the rakyat must elect lawyers to represent the people in DUN. Voting in a lawyer politician to represent the people in DUN does not guarantee the people a representative who will speak up for the people and fight for the people.

“Has it not already been proven that the party with the most number of lawyers YBs have failed most in serving the rakyat?

“We only need true Sarawakians  who will fight with all heart and soul for the rakyat and country,” she said in a statement.

Soo was responding to media reports quoting Chong as saying Wong had betrayed him for resigning from DAP recently.

She said when voters realised that the service and commitment of the elected representative is based upon his willingness to serve the rakyat and society rather than just a paper qualification, then voters have reached political maturity.

She questioned that if a political party for instance like DAP can make a wrong decision in judging its candidate’s character to offer to the people, it would also make wrong and poor judgement in other matters.

Hence, she believes that DAP is not a trustworthy political party and urges the people to make wise decisions when it comes to voting in the upcoming state election. —DayakDaily
