Some respite as Penang, Kedah, Perlis and Perak report zero new Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, Aug 20: Penang, Kedah, Perlis and Perak experienced some relief today after several consecutive days of active Covid-19 cases reported in these states.

The Ministry of Health revealed only five new imported cases nationwide today, from Bintulu (four cases) and Selangor (one case), with zero local transmission cases.


The four cases from Bintulu involve crew members of an oil and gas tanker from Toyama, Japan, thereby forming a new cluster known as Alam today.

As for the remaining one case, the patient is a non-Malaysian who just returned from Bangladesh and was confirmed to be infected with the novel coronavirus.

With these new cases, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases nationwide is 9,240 cases and the total active cases which are subjected to transmission is 183.

The ministry also revealed via a Facebook post today, there are seven Covid-19 patients receiving treatment in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and four cases needing respiratory assistance.

There were seven recoveries with successful discharge reported , raising the cumulative number of recovered patients to 8,932. — DayakDaily
