KUCHING, Nov 28: Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon has appealed to the Sarawak government to resolve the long-standing issue of residents who still hold Green Identity Cards and birth certificates marked with “undetermined” status, despite some families having lived in Sarawak for up to four generations.
Debating the Sarawak Budget 2026 at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Sitting today, Chukpai said many of these individuals continue to face significant barriers in accessing basic services such as education, healthcare and government assistance due to their unresolved documentation status.
“The National Registration Department (NRD) had implemented the Special Task Force Programme (PPK) in 2023 and 2024, but I was made to understand that the initiative did not provide solutions for local residents in this category.
“I urge the government to give this matter the serious attention it deserves and ensure that the documentation status of our people, especially those still holding Green ICs and birth certificates labelled ‘Undetermined’, including in Murum, is resolved wisely and holistically,” he said.
He suggested that solutions could be pursued through the Federal Constitution or relevant mechanisms under the National Registration Act, involving the authority of the National Registration Director-General.
Chukpai emphasised that addressing this matter is crucial for the wellbeing and future of Sarawak’s rural communities. — DayakDaily
