KUCHING, Oct 5: Social media giants Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram have gone offline for users worldwide in an outage that looks to be the longest the platforms have experienced in recent history.
The platforms flatlined a little after midnight local time today, with international news reports pouring in soon after the disruption began.
We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

An update on Facebook’s official Twitter account acknowledging the service disruption.
Service has still not been restored almost three hours since the three social media platforms went down as of the time of writing. The cause of the outage is still unknown.
According to international media, the downtime comes just a day after a whistleblower went live to accuse Facebook of “prioritising profit” instead of taking a harsher stance against hate speech and misinformation.
