KUCHING, Oct 14: Following his withdrawal from the deputy presidential race in the upcoming Parti Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC), Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan foresee the real challenge will come in 2026, when 17 new Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) seats are at stake.
“It is imperative that Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) strength is not jeopardised by any potential squabbles in any of the component partners, PRS, for this matter.
“The other component parties, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), are all in high gear now.
“They all had concluded their meeting successfully,” Snowdan said at the press conference held in Baitul Makmur today.
He also said that with his decision to withdraw from the race, he hoped that it would safeguard PRS’ interest and thereafter avoid any potential frictions or power struggle within the party.
“We cannot afford to let any element of disunity creep in and gradually destroy the party,” he added.
“I believe that bringing people together is a better option than allowing any division or separation,” Snowdan, who is also Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, said.
With Snowdan’s withdrawal, he will be giving way to the incumbent, Datuk Majang Renggi, as the sole contender for the Deputy President post.
The PRS TDC is scheduled for Oct 18 to 19. – DayakDaily
