KUCHING, Oct 13: Rumours are rife that Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) incumbent Youth Chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan may withdraw from the race for the party’s deputy presidency.

According to sources, Snowdan is likely to pull out to avoid division within the party and to maintain unity among members ahead of the upcoming party polls.

He is said to be holding a press conference at Level 17, Baitulmakmur 2 tomorrow (Oct 14) at 11am, where he is expected to make an announcement regarding his candidacy.

On Aug 22, Snowdan announced his intention to contest the PRS deputy president post ahead of the party’s 6th Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC), which will be held on Oct 18 and 19 in Kuching.

After serving nine years as PRS Youth Chief, he said he would not defend the post and instead vie for the No. 2 position, describing the move as a “family open contest” that should not cause division within PRS.

Snowdan currently serves as the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Creative Industry and Performing Arts) and is the Balai Ringin assemblyman. — DayakDaily
