KUCHING, Aug 9: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth Chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan has criticised Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) Youth for trying to gain political mileage for opposing the construction of the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) building.
He believed the opposition party had no issue to raise against the state government by opposing the construction of the Unifor building.
āA new Unifor building costing RM70 million will be constructed and will be a new landmark in town.
āOnce completed, this new landmark will manifest this uniqueness that has bound us all along, not only religious tolerance among her people but in thoughts, deeds and most importantly, the spirit of inclusiveness.
āOpposing this noble state government’s contribution to the society is equivalent to denying this uniqueness to prevail further.
āIt is self centred and non inclusive,ā Snowdan said in response to PSB Youth which questioned the need for the RM70 million Unifor Complex which is to be built on threeĀ acres of state land and termed it as a “waste of money”.
Snowdan who is Youth and Sports Assistant Minister believed all other assistance to other religious units as rendered by Unifor all these while should be continued.
He said the construction of the Unifor complex is a recognition for a multi-religious society in the state.
Snowdan who is also Balai Ringin assemblyman opined that the building symbolises the unity of the society in Sarawak as a whole and the people should be proud of it.
He observed that there is no other state in Malaysia which was doing what Sarawak had done under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Thus, he said PSB Youthās move to oppose the construction of the Unifor building was just for the sake of opposing to gain cheap publicity.āDayakDaily
