Snatch thief gets 8 years in jail after robbing woman of gold necklace

The accused is escorted to prison after the sentencing.

SIBU, July 27: A 43-year-old jobless man has been sentenced to eight years in jail and five strokes of the cane by the Magistrate’s Court today for snatching a woman’s necklace.

The accused, Tang Lung Hing pleaded guilty under Section 392 of the Penal Code for the offence.

The court was told that at about 11.30am at High Street on July 16, the 53-year-old victim had just alighted from a car driven by her husband when the accused showed up on a motorcycle and snatched away her gold necklace.


The loss was estimated at RM1,500.

The woman then screamed for help, prompting members of the public to give chase but the accused had managed to escape.

Following a police report lodged by the woman, the police managed to arrest the accused the next day in front of a restaurant in town. — DayakDaily
