SIBU, July 29: A purse snatcher was arrested after a cat-and-mouse chase by enforcement officers from Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) today.
Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said at about 9.40am, a 65-year-old woman was walking home with her daughter from the central market to their rented house in Jalan Tiong Hua when suddenly a man snatched her purse.
“It so happened that three enforcement officers from Sibu Municipal Council were at the scene and they immediately chased after the suspect,” he said.
The 28-year-old jobless suspect from Nanga Dap was apprehended behind a shophouse.
The police arrived at the scene after being alerted about the incident. They found the victim’s purse which contained RM40, both her and her husband’s identity cards, a bank ATM card and a Kenyalang Gold Card.
“The suspect tested negative for Covid-19. He will be remanded tomorrow and a urine test will also be conducted,” Stanley said.
The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery. ā DayakDaily
