SMK Tebakang students receive funding to compete in international innovation competitions in Jakarta

KUCHING, April 2: Nine students from SMK Tebakang, Serian will represent Malaysia at two prestigious international competitions in Jakarta, Indonesia which will take place from June 2 to 7, 2026.

According to a press statement, these students will participate in the World Cup Innovation Competition (IWC2026) and the International Invention and Innovation Competition (13C2026) in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem highlighted the significance of these competitions as global platforms that unite innovators, researchers, educators, and young entrepreneurs from around the world.

“This is a major international platform designed to bring together innovators, researchers, educators, and young entrepreneurs from around the world. It also provides a stage where ideas compete, cross-cultural collaborations are formed, and solutions for a better future are showcased,” he said in a statement for the fund handover ceremony to the students held at SMK Tebakang, Serian today.

He further congratulated the nine students selected to bring honor to Serian, Sarawak, and Malaysia.

He also presented a funding contribution to support students participating in the upcoming competitions in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The handover ceremony was attended by Principal Benjamin Anak Spencer Latip, Chairman of the SMK Tebakang Parent-Teacher Association Anthony A/L Siong, community leaders, and teachers who will accompany the students to Jakarta.

This initiative underscores the growing support for STEM education and innovation in Sarawak, encouraging young talents to compete and excel on the international stage. – DayakDaily
