SMK Dato Permaisuri enters Malaysia Book of Records with 267m-long project-based learning STEM module line

MIRI, Sept 29: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dato Permaisuri has successfully entered the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for the longest project-based learning (PBL) STEM module line today.

The 267m long PBL STEM module line consisting of 691 PBL modules was made possible by 1,234 of the school’s students and 88 teachers.

It took about one month for the students and teachers to assemble the modules.

This morning, the record was announced by its senior record consultant-Edwin Yeoh Tiong Chin and Siti Nurhanim Mohd Noh (research analyst) with the presence of Miri mayor cum Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang and the school’s principal, Donny Dahlan.

During the announcement, Yii explained the function of the PBL modules, as its helps students to develop teamwork and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others.

“The old-shool model of passively learning facts and reciting them out of context is no longer sufficient to prepare students in this 21st-century,” he said.

After the ceremony, Yii has also presenting incentives to 23 of the school’s top scorers for last year’s (2021) Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM).

All of then had obtained 5As and above.
