SIBU, Jan 28: A maximum of two persons including the driver is allowed to travel in a vehicle when going out to get food and essentials under Movement Control Order (MCO) in Sibu.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting emphasised that this regulation of two-person-in-car under MCO standard operating procedure (SOP) is still valid.

“The rumours going around yesterday (Jan 27) that police are checking on vehicles with more than one person is not true. There is no such thing.

“Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit has also clarified that the police are not carrying our inspections on vehicles carrying more than one person at any one time,” he told DayakDaily when contacted today.

Ting said that he had received a lot of messages and phone calls asking about the rumours since yesterday.

“But I told them as far as I am aware, there are no changes to the MCO restrictions which allowed two persons in a car to go out for necessities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jonathan was quoted in a news report today that the police have not received instruction to inspect the car with more than one passenger.
