SIBU, March 26: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has designated five locations for the selling of flowers for Ching Ming Festival on April 4.

Its Standing Committee for General Purposes and Community Services chairwoman, Councilor Donna Petrus Ngelai, said these areas are the parking area at the Palace Theater building; parking lot at Tan Guan Hock building at Lorong Seduan 6; parking area at Onestop Superstore in Sungai Merah, Lorong Sungai Merah, 2C; parking area at Tire Plus CarService, Lorong Ulu Sungai Merah 1; and the open space in front of Hosanna Kindergarten, Jalan Teng Chin Hua.

She said only traders who have permits from the council to sell flowers on the sidewalk of their respective shops are allowed.

“Traders are only allowed to sell flowers until April 4,” he said when contacted, today.

Donna stressed that traders are prohibited from selling flowers on the roadside to prevent traffic jams.

“SMC strongly discourages traders selling flowers on the side of the road especially opposite the Federal Complex building along Brooke Drive as it will obstruct the flow of traffic.

“We have given them some places nearby to sell flowers,” she added.

Donna hopes that the traders will apply for permits to sell flowers in the places that have been designated by the council.

According to her, the SMC enforcement team will monitor the situation and warn any trader found selling flowers by the roadside without permits.

Meanwhile, she also reminded those who plan to conduct business in designated places to prioritise cleanliness. — DayakDaily
