KUCHING, March 13: The Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) contributed RM10,000 to the Sarawak Orphan Children Welfare Board (Peryatim) during a special breaking-of-fast event on Thursday (March 12).
The presentation ceremony was witnessed by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the donation will support the operational costs of Peryatim, which cares for 37 orphans who attended the event.
In a festive gesture for Ramadan and the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration, the children also received duit raya from SMA.
The contribution was presented by SMA general manager Dato Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng, in the presence of the Premier.
Following the handover, Abang Johari and SMA staff listened to verses from the Holy Quran recited by Bilal Ustaz Muhamad Addaha Zaidi while waiting for the breaking of fast.
After Maghrib, the Premier joined SMA staff in performing the Isyak and Tarawih prayers in congregation, with the event concluding with a traditional moreh meal.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Peryatim chief executive officer Siti Hatizah Abang Sebit. — DayakDaily
