KUCHING, Nov 20: Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (Azam Sarawak) will be holding a Randau Digital workshop to enhance awareness on digital economy among the local communities in Sarikei this weekend (Nov 23-24).
A media release today highlighted that about 100 members of the local community including community leaders, local entrepreneurs and youths from throughout the Sarikei division will attend the programme at the Sarikei Innovation Centre (SIC).
Organised in collaboration with the Sarikei Resident Office, the programme aims to encourage rural communities to take initiatives to ensure that their communities are digital-ready.
It is the third community engagement workshop organised by Azam Sarawak this year, after the ones in Bintulu and Kapit divisions, as part of SMA’s Digital Inclusivity programme, which was initiated in 2018 and will run until 2020.
The programme in Sarikei this weekend will feature speakers from various relevant agencies. These include a representative from SMA who will speak on Sarawak’s digital economy strategy.
Meanwhile, a representative of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak will speak on community digital readiness – the involvement of community and library and, a speaker from Centexs will brief participants on technical and digital training programmes offered at the institution.
Participants will also be exposed to the various steps towards becoming digital entrepreneurs.
Other highlights of the workshop will be the experience sharing by up and coming industry players in the apparel and accessories business, as well as agro-based online business from Kuching.
Among other things, the role models will speak on how to leverage on digital platforms such as Instagram to break into international markets, as well as on how to help small local farmers to earn a more steady income by providing suitable online platforms to market and sell their products.
A key component of the workshop will be discussions among participants on proposed community initiatives for their respective areas focusing on the three sectors of digital entrepreneurship, e-tourism and, empowering leadership in digital era.
The Randau Digital this week is also organised to coincide with Sarikei Division’s “Pesta Nenas dan Buah-buahan 2019”, which will be held from Nov 22 to Dec 1. — DayakDaily
