SK Sungai Buri Miri student Valarya’s 4.77m leap secures gold at athletics championship in Ipoh

KUCHING, Dec 22: SK Sungai Buri Miri student Valarya Ambung Herry Kapi leapt her way to glory after winning the gold medal in the under 12 long jump category at the 64th National Schools Sports Athletics Championships (MSSM) in Ipoh recently.

According to a TVS news report today, Valarya secured the goal with a 4.77 metre jump—beating Kedah’s Amni Fakehah Ahmad Fauzi by 0.05 metres.

This achievement proves that youths from rural areas are also capable of shining on the national stage.

Furthermore, Valarya was the only Sarawakian athlete to have brought home a gold medal at the tournament, making the win even more significant.

With this, the athlete from Rumah Ajan is sure to inspire rural youths to venture into athletics.

In addition, she also secured silver in the 4×200 metre event.

Meanwhile, Diana Ninie Thomas who is also from Sarawak, managed to make it to the finals and placed tenth with a 4.40 metre jump. — DayakDaily
