LUNDU, April 1: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sebako is poised for a long-awaited RM5 million reconstruction under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), aimed at enhancing the safety and welfare of its students.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said the project has gained momentum through site visits and technical discussions with relevant agencies to closely monitor progress.
He stressed that the rebuild is vital to provide students and staff with safer, more comfortable, and conducive learning facilities.
“At present, the Lundu District Education Office is awaiting the Public Works Department (JKR) to conduct assessments and inspections of the existing building structure before any further action can be taken,” he told the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) yesterday (March 31).
Billy explained that the old SK Sebako building had been temporarily reconstructed using the Unplasticised Bitumen Board System (UBBS) around seven to eight years ago.
“Despite repainting and routine maintenance, the facilities no longer meet current safety and comfort standards,” he said, urging that the JKR assessment be expedited so the reconstruction can commence as soon as possible.
“This project is crucial to ensure students in this area can enjoy a high-quality, safe learning environment that aligns with the government’s aspirations for educational development,” he added. — DayakDaily
