LUNDU, Sept 10: A total of RM6.45 million has been allocated to upgrade and rebuild several schools in Lundu.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said the allocation includes RM400,000 to upgrade the hall at SMK Sematan and RM100,000 to repair the school’s volleyball and sepak takraw courts.
“SMK Lundu will also receive RM950,000, while SK Sebako is set to be rebuilt with RM5 million to provide a more conducive learning environment,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2025 programme for Lundu District at SMK Sematan on Tuesday (Sept 9).
Billy stressed that Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang is not just a physical convoy, but a symbol of struggle, sovereignty, and sacrifice that must continue to be honoured by the younger generation.
“The Jalur Gemilang is more than just a piece of cloth; it is the symbol of our independence and dignity. Every household should proudly fly the flag as an expression of love for Malaysia,” he said.
He also urged Sarawakians to continue safeguarding racial harmony and tolerance, which he described as the State’s greatest strength, while reminding the younger generation to be prepared for new challenges, including rapid developments in artificial intelligence (AI).
This year’s KMJG convoy in Lundu started early in the morning, passing key landmarks including the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Lundu, SMK Lundu, SK Bumiputera, SJKC Chung Hua Lundu, CENTEXS Lundu, and 0KM Telok Melano, before ending at SMK Sematan. More than 40 vehicles from various agencies and local communities took part. — DayakDaily
