MIRI, Oct 14: A request has been made by SK Merbau to the Education Department to repair the roof of its covered walkway after it was blown away by strong winds on Thursday evening (Oct 13).

This was disclosed by the school’s headmaster, Jemali Len, to Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin today.

Lee, accompanied by Sarawak United Peoples’ party (SUPP) Senadin branch secretary Cr Jeffery Phang, visited the primary school after being told about the incident.

“The headmaster told me that the Education Department built the walkway. As such, he will submit a report to the department and request urgent funding to rebuild it,” said Lee, also Senadin assemblyman.

Thus, Lee hoped that the Education Department would carry out repair work as soon as possible as the walkway is used by students, teachers, and parents.

Besides that, Lee also requested Phang to look into the structural problem of the walkway.

On the request of the headmaster and the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to build another covered walkway from the multipurpose hall to the existing covered walkway, Lee said he would request the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) to come up with the structure plan.

He added that he would also seek funding through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) under the Senadin constituency. — DayakDaily
