KUCHING, Jan 4: SK Garland, located in Batu Kitang constituency, today received a RM100,000 grant from Stampin MP cum Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen.
On Dec 26, the Education Ministry had also wired RM150,000 to the school.
Democratic Action Party (DAP) Batu Kitang pro-tem branch chairman Abdul Aziz Isa handed over the cheque for RM100,000 to SK Garland headmaster Elvan Kim Lai.
According to Aziz in a press statement, the ageing building and structure of the 119-year-old school needed urgent attention and financial assistance from the federal government.
“I went there in November last year and attended to their problem. Besides the dilapidated building, the windows are damaged by termites and the roof’s structural damage is caused by sedimentation,” he shared.
SK Garland, which was built in 1899, is currently managed by the School Management Board (LPS) under the administration of St Thomas Cathedral. The school has 428 students. — DayakDaily
