ASAJAYA, Sept 26: After a century of nurturing generations and strengthening community ties, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Chung Hua Sambir remains an important pillar of education in Asajaya, reflecting the foresight and commitment of earlier generations to ensuring access to education.
Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the school’s survival since its establishment in 1926 was testament to the community’s determination to preserve education despite the limitations in connectivity and basic facilities at the time.
“100 years is not a short period. It shows that this school has been cared for and preserved by previous generations, enabling it to continue standing to this day,” he said as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
He said this when officiating the 100th Anniversary Celebration of SJK Chung Hua Sambir here last night (Sept 25).
Abdul Karim, who is also Asajaya assemblyman, said the contribution of Chinese schools to education in rural areas should not be overlooked, as they had played an important role in developing human capital before educational facilities expanded to their present level.
He said the establishment of the school a century ago showed that the community had already recognised the importance of equipping younger generations with knowledge despite facing various infrastructure constraints.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim commended the participation of pupils from various ethnic backgrounds in performances held during the celebration, describing it as a reflection of the unity and harmonious relations among the people of Asajaya.
He said schools must continue to serve as platforms for nurturing children regardless of their ethnic backgrounds so they could grow into individuals who contribute positively to their families and communities.
Abdul Karim also said educational development must progress in tandem with the rapid development of Asajaya, which is entering a major phase of transformation.
He called on the community to continue supporting local educational institutions to ensure future generations could take advantage of the increasing development opportunities in the area.
Also present were Samarahan Deputy Resident Rais Ahmat, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali and Asajaya District Officer Jerry Zannuddin Bidin. — DayakDaily
