KANOWIT, Sept 3: Six passengers, including three children, were critically injured after their Proton Saga collided head-on with a Toyota Hilux along Jalan Kanowit-Song near Kanowit Bridge this afternoon.
The Kanowit Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call at 2.20pm and immediately deployed a team to the scene.
On arrival, firefighters found a woman driver, a female front passenger and a male child in the back seat still trapped inside the Proton Saga.
Another three victims, a woman and two male children, had been rescued by members of the public before the team’s arrival.
All six sustained severe injuries, while the Toyota Hilux driver escaped unhurt.
Rescuers used specialised Road Traffic Accident (RTA) equipment, including a telescopic ram, to pry open the Proton Saga’s dashboard and create an escape route.
The victims were carefully extricated using a scoop stretcher and handed over to Ministry of Health paramedics for stabilisation before being rushed by ambulance to Kanowit Hospital for further treatment.
The operation concluded after firefighters conducted flushing works to clear oil spillage on the road and ensured the site was safe. — DayakDaily
