KUCHING, Aug 25: Some 200 participants from seven countries will be competing in the 20th edition of the Siol International Mountain Bike Challenge 2023 (SIMBC2023) from Aug 25-27.
During his welcoming remarks, the Kuching City North Commission (DBKU) Mayor Datu Junaidi Reduan reminded everyone to keep striving and stay ahead of the curve as we transition into the post-pandemic new normal.
“We need to adapt, improve, and stay ahead in order to continue transforming ourselves to remain relevant and competitive,” he stated during a team presentation and high tea event for the SIMBC 2023 participants at DBKU Arena on Bukit Siol today.
Juniadi expressed his hope that organizing such an event, sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), would establish it as the premier mountain bike sporting event in Malaysia and as a platform for new talents to emerge within the Kuching cycling community, thereby promoting the international level of the sport.
“Through this event, we aim to attract locals, domestic participants, and foreigners to visit Kuching while taking part in the event. Simultaneously, we seek to promote Sarawak and Kuching City as a sports tourism destination,” Juniadi explained.
This year, SIMBC 2023 sees participation from seven countries: Thailand, Brunei, the Philippines, India, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, and Malaysia. The competition consists of two categories: Downhill and Cross Country Events.
