Sinkhole, collapsed fence in front of school worry parents

Construction of the Pan Borneo Highway has resulted in a sinking hole in front and beside Chung Hua Primary School 4 ½ Mile in Jalan Penrissen. Yap (yellow shirt) says rectification and repair works must be completed before the new school term reopens next month.

KUCHING, Dec 12: Work on the Pan Borneo Highway project has created a sizeable sinkhole at the main entrance of Chung Hua Primary School 4 1/2 Mile in Jalan Penrissen. The fencing in front of the school is also affected.

With the new school term barely three weeks away, concerned parents have called up Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB) for help.

This prompted SPCB chief Wilfred Yap to lead several party members to take a look and see how the matter could be resolved quickly.

“The complaint about the sinkhole and collapsed fence at Chung Hua Primary School 4 ½ Mile has been communicated to the Public Works Department and the state Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Transport,” said Yap in a statement today.

Yap, who is also SUPP Kota Sentosa branch chairman, urged the authorities concerned to rectify the matter before the new school term starts.

“This is important in order to prevent any unforeseen accident that might arise, as the safety of the pupils and others are of paramount importance,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yap said that as the chief of SPCB, he had been consistently approached by members of the public for assistance during his regular ‘turun padang’ activities with SUPP members.

He said SPCB is always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems or who come across problems of public interest but do not know how to deal with it. — DayakDaily
