KUCHING, May 21: The inaugural Siniawan Art & Folklore Music Festival is set to be another signature attraction to the Siniawan Heritage Town.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the festival showcases artwork by local artists and highlights the folklore music of the various communities in Sarawak.

“In addition, the festival showcases renowned local artists like Lan E Tuyang and At Adau.

“The historic Siniawan bazaar is really a gem. It is also unique as it is not far from the capital city of Kuching,” he said to this reporter at Ayak Gallery before officiating the Siniawan Art & Folklore Music Festival 2022.

He added that the festival, held from May 20-22 at Siniawan Heritage Town, would bring people from all walks of life for something other than artwork and food.

“The ministry will support this event as it indirectly portrays our culture and arts.

He lauded the festival’s organiser as it is good for the economy.

“We expect both locals and tourists from outside to visit Siniawan and the rest of Sarawak,” he said.

Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh chipped in and said that the festival would be an annual event.

He added that in the future, the venue could be relocated to a bigger space in the vicinity of the ongoing Siniawan Waterfront project that is expected to be completed in August.

“The venue can accommodate a bigger crowd to enjoy the festival. Today’s ongoing festival is the first edition in conjunction with Gawai Dayak this year,” he said.
