SERIAN, July 20: The setting up of a single water entity in Sarawak is still undergoing the process of getting all the necessary details in order involving related ministries and agencies, says Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi.
He said this was necessary in view that water supply is not confined to his ministry, but involves several ministries and agencies.
“At the moment, we are still in the process of doing an in-depth study and doing benchmarking visits and engagement with staff of water authorities in Sarawak.
“We are also doing all the details with consultants and related ministries and agencies,” Julaihi told reporters during a visit to Slabi Water Treatment Plant, here today.
He explained that the discussion also involved Kuching Water Board, Rural Water Supply Department, Sibu Water Board and Laku Management Sdn Bhd.
He added that the discussion takes into serious account the sourcing of raw water supply for Sarawak.
Julaihi further said that the role of the single water entity will be similar to Sarawak Energy Berhad, which supplies electricity to the whole of Sarawak. ā DayakDaily
