KUCHING, Aug 18: Malaysian dangdut singer Baby Shima has released her cover version of ‘Bekikis Bulu Betis’ which subsequently won the hearts of many Sarawakians.
The cover version was released on her social platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, TikTok and Instagram on Aug 15.
On Facebook, the 30-year-old singer posted the 4:21-minute video with a caption “If there’s any mistake, please forgive me”.
At the time of writing, the video has garnered over 220,000 views, 2,100 shares, 11,000 likes and 653 comments.
Many Sarawakians have bombarded the comment section with positive feedback and praised her for her efforts to sing a song which is in a foreign language for her.
Facebook user Tero Bayel wrote, “Wah Shima. Very good. The enunciation is correct.”
Another user Max Samuel wrote, “At least she’s trying. Good attempt. Thank you for covering this Iban’s song. Proud Iban here. It is not easy to cover another language’s song especially ethnic’s languages. Keep going.”
Meanwhile, Wee Wee Bisingai wrote, “Baby Shima, come live in Sarawak. There is no one here that would criticise you. All Sarawak people are sporting. Good luck, Baby Shima.”
User Bibieyy Tiongg wrote, “Baby Shima, come live in Sarawak and learn Iban and Bidayuh songs, it would be perfect. You are the best, Baby Shima.”
The same video uploaded on YouTube has received 61,554 views while on TikTok, the views have reached up to 675,000 views.
Bekikis Bulu Betis is an Iban song by Andrewson Ngalai which is extremely popular among Sarawakians and is commonly played at functions and events throughout the State. — DayakDaily
