KUCHING, April 11: A delegation from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) paid a courtesy call on Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
According to a statement, the Singaporean delegation was led by EMA chief executive Ngiam Shih Chun. Joining him were EMA’s Director for Energy Connection Office Lee Seng Wai and Deputy Director for Energy Connection Office Tan Xin Yi, and MTI’s Director of Energy Division Leow Lay May.
Also in the high-level delegation were representatives from Sarawak Energy Berhad headed by its group chief executive officer Datu Sharbini Suhaili.
The meeting with the Premier, who is also the Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, included a discussion of the future path for shared renewable energy resources in the region.
Sarawak Energy, Malaysia’s largest renewable energy developer, is part of a consortium with Sembcorp Industries and SP Group undertaking a feasibility study to explore a potential power interconnection between Singapore and Sarawak.
Among those present at the courtesy call were Counsellor (Economics) from the High Commission of the Republic of Singapore in Kuala Lumpur Lide Tay, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni. — DayakDaily
