SINGAPORE, Nov 21:The launch of direct flights between Sarawak and Singapore through AirBorneo will open significant opportunities for mobility and tourism, says Singapore Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli Masagos Mohamad.

He noted that direct access from the republic to Sarawak’s key destinations will be a major draw for Singaporeans, according to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

“With direct flights from Sarawak to these attractive cities, I am confident that Singaporeans will travel there to enjoy the natural beauty and experiences Sarawak has to offer,” Masagos said after meeting Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar today.

He added that the initiative is not only expected to increase visitor exchanges but also has the potential to strengthen economic, cultural and social ties between the two regions.

AirBorneo, a newly established Sarawak-owned airline, is set to play a key role in opening routes to regional destinations, including Singapore, in line with the Sarawak government’s agenda to boost tourism and trade.

Separately, Tun Wan Junaidi reportedly held a breakfast session with Masagos, who has been an old friend since his tenure as Deputy Home Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment.

The meeting included substantive discussions on potential collaboration, particularly regarding AirBorneo and initiatives to strengthen tourism between Sarawak and Singapore.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee and Senior Private Secretary to the Sarawak Governor Dato Sri Syed Hamzah Syed Paie. – DayakDaily
