KUCHING, April 26: The Singai area will remain under the administration of Bau District — dispelling claims that several villages would be transferred to Petra Jaya under the ‘Greater Bau’ initiative.
Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep stressed that the history, origins, and civilisation of the Bidayuh BiSingai community are closely tied to Bau and cannot be separated.
He added that early developments in education and Christianity in the district also began in the Singai area.
“Since the time of Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie as the elected representative, and later myself, the size of Bau District has never changed.
“I will continue to defend Singai from being transferred to Petra Jaya, and that will not happen,” he was quoted as saying by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), during the closing of the ‘BiSingai Townhall’ programme held at Dewan Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, REDEEMS Centre yesterday (April 25).
At the same time, Henry who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman, clarified that the Greater Bau initiative reflects the Sarawak government’s ongoing commitment to drive holistic development in the district.
According to him, the approach not only assesses current achievements but also places emphasis on more inclusive future planning.
“Rural communities, including those in Singai, will not be sidelined. Instead, they will continue to receive attention to ensure they progress in tandem with development,” he added.
Among those present were REDEEMS president Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, its life president Datuk Wilfred Rata Nissom, deputy president Dr Les Met, and Bau District Officer Eddy Nayoi. — DayakDaily
