He was delivering the winding up speech on behalf of Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting at DUN Complex here today.

Work on the Petra Jaya Hospital Project started in May 2013 and it was supposed to be completed by November 2016.

As of June 2018, work was only 34.5 per cent completed. The latest appeal by the contractor was for the completion date to be extended to December 2018.

However, due to gross delay, the Pakatan Harapan government then terminated the contractor and re-tendered the project where all tender documents were open to the public in Feb 2019.

A year later in Feb 2020, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Youth secretary questioned Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chief Chong Chieng Jen for the update. There was none.

After the change of federal government in March 2020, Deputy Health Minister II Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang on Aug 2020, updated that the construction of Petra Jaya Hospital was at the evaluation of tender stage for contractors at the Parliament following the request of DAP Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii.

Aaron explained that the contract to build the said hospital had to be re-tendered following termination of the contractor in Aug 2018 due to unsatisfactory work.

Meanwhile, for Miri Hospital extension project, Uggah said the site for a new hospital block for 328 beds has been handed over to the contractor on June 25, 2020.

“This project is scheduled to complete by October 18, 2023,” said Uggah who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman.

As for the new Lawas Hospital, he said the project has started on June 30, 2020 and has been scheduled to complete by Dec 26, 2023.

On Sri Aman Hospital, the actual progress of the new Sri Aman Hospital as of Oct 23, 2020 was 86.22 per cent compared to the intended schedule of 97 per cent.

“The contractor has been granted an additional three Extension of Time where the completion date has been revised to Feb 6, 2021,” said Uggah. — DayakDaily
