MIRI, Sept 25: Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni has urged his constituents to report any misused of state government grants channelled through the Minor Rural Projects (MRP) fund.

He said issues pertaining to the alleged abuse of MRP grants have been raised quite frequently amongst the people. Some had complained that the grant did not serve its purpose.

Expressing concerns over the matter, Lukanisman said strict evaluation will be made in the future before any grant can be approved.

“I received numerous complaints on the matter, whereby members of NGOs or villagers did not benefit from the grants given.

“Please do not misuse the grants to benefit the people for your own private gain,” he said after presenting grants worth RM117,300 to 20 NGOs under his constituency, here, today.

At the event Lukanisman reminded the various government initiatives that should be utilised by the people.

He cited initiatives such as air ticket subsidy by the state government, to help Sarawak students studying in the peninsula, Sabah and Labuan purchasing their flight tickets home for the festive season, as examples.

This included the RM1,000 endowment fund for Sarawakian newborn starting this year, which would be handy to help recipients kickstart their adulthood upon the aged of 18.

He said all these programmes were designed to help ease the financial burden on the people.

“At the federal level, they have established PeKa B40, a healthcare protection scheme by the Health Ministry, which provides free health screening, free medical equipment, incentives to complete cancer treatments and transport incentives.

“As Malaysians we all must alert and aware of all these initiatives,” he continued. — DayakDaily
