Sibu’s Gawai Dayak Bazaar to take place again this year at Taman Tasik Permai

SIBU, April 27: Sarawak Iban Artists Association (PARISA) will organise a Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2023 from May 11 to 25 at Taman Tasik Permai.

Its president, Councilor Augustine Merikan said today that the bazaar has received approval from the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

According to him, this bazaar will be open to the public from 2pm to 11pm daily.


“The location of the bazaar is still the same as last year, and this time there will be a total of 29 stalls of which 10 are stalls selling various handicraft products.

“The other 19 stalls are food and drinks stalls,” he said.

Augustine added that Temenggong Stanley Geramong Bandar is schedulted to officiate at the opening ceremony of the bazaar on May 11 at 6pm.

“Last year, this bazaar was well received and this year we believe it will be able to receive the same response, if not better,” he said.

The bazaar also aims to provide opportunities for Dayak entrepreneurs to generate income by introducing their products, increase their income and at the same time attract tourists by showcasing various food and handicraft products.

“We hope it can help foster unity among the Dayak community despite having different political ideologies, understandings and even religion,” he said. — DayakDaily
