SIBU, Nov 5: Incumbent Oscar Ling (PH-DAP) is facing a sterner test as he is facing two formidable opponents in his effort to defend P212 SIBU.

One of the heavyweights is Dato Seri Wong Soon Koh (PSB), who is contesting in the election for the first time. The Bawang Assan assemblyman and PSB president had previously contested in State elections only.

As if that is not enough, Ling will also face Clarence Ting Ing Horh (GPS-SUPP).

Their candidacies were accepted by returning officer Khalid Andong at the Sibu Islamic Complex.

Ling’s proposer is former Bukit Assek assemblywoman Irene Chang and Adeline Kiu (seconder), while Ting’s proposer is Syed Hamzah and Ting Tien Huat (seconder).

As for Wong, his proposer was Ting Hoong Hua and Datuk Janet Lau Ung Hie (seconder).

In the 2018 parliamentary polls, Ling retained the seat by a majority of 11,422 votes in a four-cornered fight.

Ling collected 33,811 votes against BN-SUPP candidate (the late) Dato Andrew Wong Kee Yew (22,389), Tiew Yen Houng of PEACE (377), and Tiong Ing Tung from STAR (176). — DayakDaily
