SIBU, July 31: Sibu is set to become the first location in Sarawak to roll out the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ pilot project starting Aug 1, aimed at simplifying the process of business license applications and company name registrations.

According to a TVS news report, the initiative is led by the Sarawak Transformation and Innovation Unit (STIU) under the Premier of Sarawak’s Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, and the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

SMC chairman Clarence Ting said the project will integrate three key processes of business name registration with the District Office, business license application with the Treasury Office, and operational license issuance by the local authority through a centralised system located at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Sibu.

“Applicants will only need to complete a single composite form that captures all required information for the three processes. The form will then be submitted at UTC, where all relevant agencies will process it under one roof,” he said.

Ting explained that the integrated approach aims to reduce bureaucratic hurdles while saving time and costs for business owners.

The pilot targets a 14-working-day processing period for low-risk business categories, from the date a complete application is submitted to the issuance of the business license.

“SMC is proud that the Sibu Division has been selected as the pilot location. We are fully committed to ensuring the success of this initiative,” he said, adding that periodic evaluations will be conducted to monitor and improve the project’s effectiveness. — DayakDaily
