KUCHING, March 16: Sibu recorded three Covid-19 fatalities, while Sarawak’s new daily infections hovered at the four-digit mark with 1,555 cases today.
This pushed the State’s overall Covid-19 tally to 283,018 cases and death toll to 1,649.
According to a Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) update on the Covid-19 situation in the State today, all three deaths in Sibu Hospital involved elderly women with morbidities.
Two women, aged 77 and 91, passed away on March 13, while a 90-year-old woman passed away on March 15.
By district, Kuching continued to account for the most number of new infections with 660 cases, followed by Miri (206), Bintulu (128) and Sibu (116).
Twelve districts saw double-digit case gains, namely Serian (83), Samarahan (71), Bau (50), Sarikei (29), Limbang (24), Sri Aman (19), Betong (16), Asajaya (13), Tebedu and Tanjung Manis (12 each), while Saratok and Matu had 10 cases each.
A total of 20 districts registered single-digit case counts, comprising Simunjan (9), Daro and Mukah (8 each), Lawas, Kabong and Marudi (7 each), Dalat, Lundu and Kanowit (6 each), Meradong (5), Lubok Antu and Tatau (4 each), Subis, Kapit, Pakan and Belaga (3 each), Pusa, Beluru and Sebauh (2 each), while Bukit Mabong had one case.
Of the new cases reported today, there were 13 cases in critical categories, with three patients under Category 5 with pneumonia and requiring ventilator support, four under Category 4 with pneumonia and requiring oxygen therapy, and six under Category 3 with pneumonia.
There were also 978 cases under Category 2 with mild symptoms and 564 cases under Category 1 with no symptoms. — DayakDaily
