SIBU, Oct 13: Police here have called for cooperation of the public to ensure a peaceful 15th General Election.

“We call on the people to work together and cooperate with us so that the election can be carried out smoothly,” said Sibu district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili after receiving a speedboat donated by Dudong assemblyman Datuk Sri Tiong King Sing today.

Tiong was represented by PDP Dudong chairman Councillor Teo Boon Siew at the function.

Zulkipli said the police would be monitoring the situation on the ground closely, especially in areas considered as hot seats.

“We are ready for the election and will be carrying out our duties accordingly,” he said.

On the flood situation, Zulkipli said they had made thorough preparations to face such occurrences during the monsoon season.

“We are ready for the floods. We are also working closely with relevant agencies such as Bomba, the Civil Defence Force and Rela to carry out flood relief operations,” he added.

He thanked Tiong for the speedboat, which he said will come in handy during the monsoon season.

Meanwhile, Teo said the speedboat together with the outboard engine which costs RM17,000 was donated following a request by Zulkipli.

“As Sibu is prone to floods, especially during the landas season where roads are not accessible by small vehicles, we have to travel by boat to help those in need of assistance,” he said.

“This speedboat is bulletproof and can carry 10 persons at a time,” said Teo. — DayakDaily
