The gang is suspected of being involved in stealing telecommunication cables around the town since early this year.

Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said today that this group consists of three men aged between 28 and 40.

Their modus operandi, he said, was to target telecommunication substation towers in remote locations. They would then steal the cables and battery components, before selling them for profit.

“The three suspects were arrested as a result of a series of raids carried out between Oct 3 and 4. They are now in remand custody for further investigation.

“The suspects were also found to have various past criminal records related to property crimes and drug abuse,” he said.

Zulkipli said all the suspects are being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Following that, he also expressed his appreciation to the Sibu community for the cooperation and information provided, which helped in suppressing this criminal activity. — DayakDaily
