“The victim is a local woman in her 40s who claimed to have suffered a loss of RM43,988 after receiving a call from an unknown individual.

“On June 18, she received a call from an individual who introduced himself as a representative from a bank telling her that she had made a withdrawal from her account exceeding the daily limit,” he said today.

Zulkipli said the victim’s call was later connected to someone claiming to be a bank officer who instructed her to provide her identification card number, bank card number, and other banking information for verification purposes.

Feeling worried and afraid, she followed the instructions given by the suspect.

“On June 20, she checked her account and found that there were five transactions totalling RM43,988 into three local accounts unknown to her.

“The victim felt suspicious and realised she had been a victim of online fraud.

Zulkifli said the police had opened an investigation paper under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. — DayakDaily
