SIBU, Dec 14: Sibu will usher in 2024 with a magnificent 10-minute fireworks display at the town square on December 31.

The town square is expected to be filled to the brim with 30,000 people.

“Our highlight for the New Year countdown is a 10-minute fireworks display. We are expecting 30,000 people to turn up for this event,” said organising chairman Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Councillor Rory Wong at a press conference here today.

Wong added that the crowd would also be treated to a solid entertainment programme featuring singing and dance performances by local artists for five hours starting at 7.30pm.

Among these local talents are Menoah Hudson, Joe Ashley, Janet Ling Sing Jing, T-ga Band, The Sibu Busker, Klunan Magat, Little Apple, Amazing X, and The Powertive.

“In addition, visitors can also indulge their tastebuds in a diverse array of delectable cuisines as numerous food and beverage stalls, along with food trucks, promise a culinary experience like no other,” he said.

Wong urged the public to avoid illegal parking, as there will be stringent enforcement to maintain order and safety.

He also urged the public to avoid littering at the town square throughout the countdown. — DayakDaily
