Sibu, Miri, Kapit top list of daily Covid-19 infections as Sarawak reports 121 new cases

KUCHING, Feb 2: Sarawak recorded 121 new Covid-19 cases today with Sibu, Miri and Kapit topping the list of daily infections with 37, 25, and 21 new cases respectively.

This raises the state’s tally of positive cases to 4,676.

Of the remaining cases, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today disclosed ten were registered in Dalat, Bintulu (9), Bukit Mabong (4), three each in Kuching, Song and Beluru, Serian (2), and one each in Sarikei, Kanowit, Julau and Selangau.


In Sibu, 25 of the 37 cases were detected via active contact screening to positive cases, while five cases involved healthcare workers, four cases from other screenings, two cases are linked to Pasai Cluster and one case was detected from symptomatic screening.

In Miri, of the total 25 cases reported, 18 were detected from active contact screening in which 14 cases were categorised as local transmissions while four were imported from Beluru, three cases involved healthcare workers, two cases are linked to Jelita Cluster and two cases were detected from symptomatic screening.

Of the 21 cases in Kapit, 19 were linked to the Pasai Cluster while two cases were detected via active contact screening and symptomatic screening.

In Dalat, five of the 10 cases reported were linked to the Pasai Cluster while another five were detected via active contact screening.

As for Bintulu’s nine cases, eight were detected from active contact screening and one case was linked to the Rakut Cluster.

In Bukit Mabong, two cases were detected from active contact screening and two cases were linked to the Pasai Cluster while in Song, all three cases were linked to the Pasai Cluster.

In Beluru, two cases were detected from active contact screening while one case was linked to the Rakut Cluster.

In Kuching, two cases surfaced via screening at healthcare facilities and one from symptomatic screening.

In Serian, two cases involved construction site screening while Kanowit’s sole case was linked to the Pasai Cluster.

As for the single cases reported in Selangau, Julau and Sarikei respectively, they were picked up from symptomatic screenings as well as active contact screening. — DayakDaily
