KUCHING, Sept 21: The third edition of the Sibu Jaya Water Fiesta 2024 saw more than 20,000 participants.
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said as the only water festival organised in Sarawak, it is similar to the Songkran Water Festival in Thailand which is beneficial for the local population.
“I was made to understand that some of the participants came over from Bintulu and the surrounding areas to be together and spend time with their family members.
“It provides an opportunity for family members to bond with each other during the school holidays and this weekend,” he said when met by reporters after officiating the Sibu Jaya Water Fiesta 2024 today.
He added that the festival also benefits local entrepreneurs and traders.
The festival is organised by the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) in collaboration with Amcorp Sibujaya. — DayakDaily
