SIBU, Oct 28: Security in Sibu is still stable as the recent shooting incident is an isolated case, says ACP Zulkipli Suhaili.
The Sibu district police chief strongly refuted social media claims labelling Sibu as unsafe following a shooting incident at Lorong Wong King Huo 21 last Friday.
Zulkipli assured the public that Sibu’s security remains stable, and the police are actively investigating the incident.
“There is no problem. There is no (security) issue,” he told reporters after the monthly police parade today.
Touching on the shooting case, Zulkipli said that no suspects have been arrested yet, and investigations are ongoing.
“Our current information suggests that the weapon used was likely a shotgun. The victim, who was injured in his right shoulder, is receiving treatment at a private medical centre,” he said.
A background check on the 46-year-old victim revealed he has five criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
On the theft of over RM300,000 from a parked car near Jalan Kampung Nyabor, Zulkipli said the police are conducting a detailed investigation.
“This includes reviewing footage from the bank’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) and car dashcams to identify the suspects,” he noted.
Last Friday (Oct 25), a 27-year-old employee lost RM301,231 after a man shattered her car’s window and stole the cash.
The victim had withdrawn the money on behalf of her company from a bank just before the incident.
“Initial findings indicate that the robbers followed her from the bank. When she parked the car, one suspect broke the driver’s side window and stole the bag placed on the passenger seat.
“The suspect then ran to his accomplice, who was waiting on a motorcycle,” Zulkipli added. — DayakDaily
