SIBU, Feb 25: Sibu Disaster Management Committee has backtracked its proposal to lockdown Zone 7 (Tiong Hua) and Zone 15 (Sentosa).

SDMC chairman, Dr Annuar Rapaee had on Wednesday said they would proposed to the State Disaster Management Committee to lockdown the two zones due to the spike in Coivd-19 cases.

Explaining its decision especially on Zone 7, in its daily Facebook Livestream this evening, he said most of the 175 cases happened to those renting rooms in the area.

On Zone15 which had recorded 116 cases, he noted that most of them occurred as a result of social gathering among residents in Phase 2 of Kampung Sentosa.

“Residents are advised not to gather in group. Youths wandering on motorcycles should also stop when we lockdown the area, everybody will be prohibited to go out,” he stressed.

On the 80 new cases recorded in Sibu today, he said 39 of them were from Sibu Municipal Council jurisdiction while 20 in Sibu Rural District Council area and 19 in Sibu Jaya (16 from flats).

“This is a drop as compared to 181 cases yesterday. But we are not safe yet. We are thankful that the vaccine has finally arrived. This is our bullet to fight against the disease,” he said. — DayakDaily
