SIBU, Apr 2: Sibu Diocesan Pastoral Center (SDPC) at Jalan Kemuyang which belongs to the Catholic Church has been used as the second Covid-19 quarantine centre.

The first Covid-19 centre is at Kemuyang Youth Camp which is about 2km away from SDPC.

Sibu Division Resident Charles Siaw in announcing this today said the Covid-19 centre at SDPC was opened for use on April 1.

“This centre can accommodate up to 60 patients. We would like to thank the Catholic Church for allowing us to use the place as a Covid-19 centre,” he said.

Last month, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is also the chairman of the state Disaster Management Committee, had conducted a survey at the Kemuyang Youth Camp here.

On a separate matter, Siaw, who is also chairman of the Sibu district disaster committee, said a group of farmers here have been donating vegetables to the needy.

“They sent the supplies to the distribution center at the Islamic Complex. From there we will then distribute to the needy with the help of non-governmental organizations (NGOs),” he said.—DayakDaily
