KUCHING, Sept 12: The Sibu Central Market was the final stopover for the King and Queen in Central Sarawak on their ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ royal tour.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news report today, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and his sons, the Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, Tengku Panglima Raja Colonel Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah, and Tengku Ahmad Ismail Mu’adzam Shah, arrived at 8.46am today and were greeted by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in front of the main gate of the largest market in Sarawak.
Upon His Majesty’s arrival at the market, King Al-Sultan Abdullah signed a ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ plaque followed by his son, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim, who represented Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who could not attend the final stopover together.
His Majesty’s entourage, accompanied by the Sarawak Premier, were delighted to visit several hawker stalls known for selling handicrafts, sweets, seafood, vegetables, and fresh fruits.
The purpose of the brief visit was to get to know the people of Sarawak better, which is the main goal of the ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ tour.
The public eagerly seized the opportunity to capture memories by taking pictures and shaking hands with the King and his son.
After the visit, His Majesty departed for Sri Aman at 10am for lunch and performed the Fardhu Zohor prayer at the Bandar Sri Aman Mosque, followed by a visit to Fort Alice before leaving for Kuching.
Also present during His Majesty’s arrival at the market were Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, Minister of Public Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries, and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Sarawak Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Sarawak Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Sarawak Government Deputy Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee, and other dignitaries. — DayakDaily
